My name is Vinay Kumar Goyel. I gave the JLPT N5 exam on 7th December 2025 at the Delhi examination center. Currently, I am preparing for the JLPT N4 exam. Before and during the exam, I had many doubts and confusions. I decided to write this post to share my experience and help others who are planning to take the JLPT for the first time.

Top 10 Frequently Asked Questions About JLPT Exam Day

1. How many times is the listening audio played during the exam?

Answer: The listening section audio is played only once for the entire room, so pay close attention during playback.

2. Can we bring a bag into the examination hall?

Answer: Bags are allowed, but you must submit them at a designated area. There is usually a small fee (around ₹50) per bag or mobile device. It’s best to carry minimal belongings.

3. How long are the breaks between sections?

Answer: Breaks are scheduled as per the official JLPT exam timetable. However, they may feel shorter because time is spent collecting answer sheets, distributing new sections, and writing your name and roll number on sheets.

4. Do we need a color print of the admit card, or is black & white sufficient?

Answer: Either is acceptable. You must have a printed hard copy of your admit card.

5. What form of identification is required for the exam?

Answer: The ID specified on your admit card is sufficient. No additional ID is needed.

6. What items are allowed in the exam room?

Answer: Only HB pencils, erasers, sharpeners, a watch, admit card, ID card, and money are allowed. Other items must be left outside.

7. Can we use a digital watch or only analog watches?

Answer: Both analog and digital watches are allowed, but smartwatches or devices with notifications are not permitted.

8. What happens if we arrive late for the exam?

Answer: Arriving late may result in denial of entry, depending on the exam center’s rules. It’s important to arrive at least 30–45 minutes early.

9. Can we bring water or snacks inside the exam hall?

Answer: No food or drinks are allowed inside. You can carry water in a transparent bottle if permitted by the exam center, but it’s safer to consume snacks/water during breaks outside the exam hall.

10. Are calculators or electronic devices allowed during the exam?

Answer: No electronic devices, including calculators, mobile phones, or tablets, are allowed. Only items listed in the allowed items section can be brought.
